There are a variety of programs, non-profit organizations, government bodies and other resources that help offset the costs involved in purchasing mobility devices.

British Columbia Home Renovation Tax Credit for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities

The Home Renovation Tax Credit for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities assists eligible individuals 65 and over, as well as persons with disabilities, with the cost of certain permanent home renovations to improve accessibility or be more functional or mobile at home.

Spinal Cord Injury BC

Spinal Cord Injury BC (SCI BC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping people with spinal cord injuries and related disabilities adjust, adapt, and thrive. Currently, the organization serves over 2,600 British Columbians and their families and friends by providing answers, information and unique community experiences that change lives.

Knights of Columbus

The Knights was formed to render financial aid to members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.

Crime Victims Assistance (CVA)

CVA provides funding for individuals who have injuries as a victim of a criminal activity. Funding can be sourced through CVA for many types of rehabilitation equipment including manual and power wheelchairs, seating, patient lifts and slings, mobility scooters and ramps, and aids to daily living.

BC Housing — BC Rebate for Accessible Home Adaptations (BC RAHA) Program

The BC Rebate for Accessible Home Adaptations (BC RAHA) program provides financial assistance in the form of a grant to eligible low-income households to complete home adaptations which will allow them to continue living independently in their home.

BC Services for People With Disabilities

If you are living with a disability in B.C., there are programs and services available to you. These programs and services get funding for more than $5 billion each year. They are offered through government, crown agencies and corporations.

Shelter Aid For Elderly Renters (SAFER)

The Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters (SAFER) program helps make rent affordable for BC seniors with low to moderate incomes. SAFER provides monthly cash payments to subsidize rent for eligible BC residents who are age 60 or over and who pay rent for their homes.

ICBC provides equipment funding for those injured in a motor vehicle incident. They provide funding for all types of rehabilitation equipment, including manual and power wheelchairs as well as seating, patient lifts and slings, mobility scooters and ramps, and aids to daily living.

BC Rehab Foundation

BC Rehab Foundation assists individuals whose lives are affected by a physical disability. BC Rehab, as a charity, is not disease specific. The organization assists British Columbians living with a broad range of disabilities as the result of a disease or trauma.

MS Society of BC

Since 1975, the Multiple Sclerosis Society of British Columbia & Yukon has supported MS research and provided services and programs to enhance quality of life for more than 8,000 British Columbians & Yukoners affected by MS.

46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make Lions Club the world’s largest service club organization. They are also one of the most effective. The organization’s members do whatever is needed to help their local communities.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation

CMHC provides forgivable loans and grants for those who require home adaptations. This can include stair lifts, ramp systems and elevators in addition to other adaptations to the home for better accessibility.

WorkSafe BC

WorkSafe BC provides equipment funding for those injured at the workplace. They provide funding for all types of rehabilitation equipment including manual and power wheelchairs as well as seating, patient lifts and slings, mobility scooters and ramps, and aids to daily living.

Kin Canada

Kinsmen, Kinette and Kin clubs across the country work to better their communities, enhance the well-being of Canadians and improve the environment. The Association was founded in 1920 and has a history dedicated to fostering lifelong friendships while ‘Serving the Community’s Greatest Need.’

President’s Choice Children’s Charity

Presidents Choice Children’s Charity receive applications from families whose children have been diagnosed with a range of disabilities including cerebral palsy, autism, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida and various developmental delays ($20,000).

ALS Society of BC

The Equipment Loan Program of the ALS Society of BC is designed to help ALS patients in BC and Yukon cope with the daily challenges of decreasing mobility and loss of independence by providing basic and essential assistive equipment. Patients are offered equipment if they are unable to obtain it from another source. This could be people who have no extended benefits, minimal benefits or limited financial resources. There is no fee charged to access to the ALS BC equipment loan program.

Kiwanis Clubs

Kiwanis International is a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time. Today, the organization stands with more than 550,000 members from K-Kids to Key Club to Kiwanis and many ages in between in 80 countries and geographic areas. Each community has different needs, and Kiwanis empowers members to pursue creative ways to serve the needs of children, such as fighting hunger, improving literacy and offering guidance.

The War Amps

A philosophy of “amputees helping amputees” has been the hallmark of The War Amps since 1918, when the organization was founded by amputee war veterans returning home from the First World War. Peer support, self-help and practical assistance are common threads that have been retained in the modern-day organization that developed from their efforts. Today, the Association continues to serve war amputees, and all Canadian amputees, including children.
